When recovery is impossible In rare circumstances data cannot be retrieved. A severe head crash can scrape the platters to a point that recovery is impossible. The drive can be secure wiped, overwriting all of the data with zeroes. Note: Dying drives have only so much life left. Powering on a hard drive with hardware problems can do further damage and make your data permanently inaccessible. |
